Healthy nurturing and safe families are vital to our children's future and ultimately to the well being of the members of the community
A significant number of our children do not presently enjoy such a home environment. This lack of security increases the likelihood that crime, drug and alcohol addiction, child abuse and family violence will continue to be perpetuated in their lives as they become adults.
This cycle is most often multigenerational. With intense intervention which is multidisciplinary, consistent and available to all income groups, this cycle can be broken.
Breaking the cycle can best be accomplished by shifting to a paradigm based on healing and empowering parents while identifying and building on strengths throughout the healing process.
We as community members share a collective responsibility to reach out to those who are most at risk. Through this process our interconnectedness will provide the building blocks for community healing. It is therefore vital to maintain and foster an active and substantial volunteer component in all our programs.
This multidisciplinary and community driven approach forms the basis of family support. We can move from a cycle of poverty, dependency and hopelessness to empowerment, healing for our parents, our children and ultimately our whole community.
